Comparing

What makes a wellness programme comparable at all

Most programmes in this category are described in prose and cannot be set beside each other. These are the fields that make comparison possible, and why we record all of them.

A cliff headland near Antalya at first light — pine and scrub running down warm limestone to deep blue Mediterranean water.

The problem with prose

Two paragraphs written by two marketing teams cannot be compared, however carefully you read them. They use different words for the same thing and the same word for different things, and both omit whatever is least flattering.

Structure is the only way out: the same fields, for every programme, resolved the same way — including the field that says nobody has told us.

The fields that carry the weight

  • Itemised inclusions, counted rather than summarised
  • Itemised exclusions, which almost nobody publishes
  • Price with its basis, occupancy, tax position and construction
  • Supervision — the field that varies most between programmes that look alike
  • Whether a daily schedule is published at all
  • When the record was last checked, and what was not assessed

Why "not stated" is its own answer

If a provider has not mentioned airport transfers, the honest cell says so. It does not say "no". A missing fact and an excluded item are different, and merging them would flatter whichever provider disclosed least — which is exactly backwards.
