Why walking is the least fashionable wellness ritual

It needs no equipment, no booking and no instructor, which is exactly why it rarely appears on a programme sheet — and why it is worth noticing when it does.

Nothing to sell

A walk is difficult to itemise. It has no session count, no practitioner, no room and no equipment, which makes it nearly invisible in the kind of structured record this site keeps.

That invisibility cuts both ways. A programme in a place where you can walk out of the door and keep going is offering something real that will never appear in its inclusion list — and a programme with an hour of scheduled walking has made a deliberate choice worth reading as one.

What to look for

  • Is there anywhere to walk from the property without transport?
  • Is walking scheduled, or simply possible?
  • Is it guided, and is that included or charged?
  • Does the terrain and the season actually allow it?
